After nearly five years closed, Moose Pond Club Road bridge has been repaired and the road is now open! We will hike the first mile (nearly level terrain) on the Vanderwhacker Mountain Trail in mixed forest, and along the wetlands for half the hike (so two miles round-trip). Historically, there have been several pairs of nesting Olive-sided Flycatchers and Rusty Blackbirds in the wetlands. (We found a Rusty Blackbird nest with 4 young in 2020 just before the road closed.) Red Crossbill flocks are often found during winter nesting years. It is a nice trail to see many warbler species and thrushes also. Wildflowers will be lovely in May!
